I have to say, honestly, that I haven't regretted for a single day that I started my apprenticeship as a tax clerk at Rödl.

Janine SchertelTax Clerk

What did you particularly enjoy about your apprenticeship?

There are many aspects of the training that I really enjoyed. For one thing, I liked working on accounting tasks, since accounting has always been a huge passion of mine and I can now pursue that passion professionally. I also really enjoyed preparing income tax returns, as this allowed me to connect the knowledge I’d learned in vocational school with real-world practice and put it to use. Every income tax return is unique, and with each one I processed, I was able to learn something new.

Another aspect of the apprenticeship involved conducting research to clarify specific issues for clients. This was a great opportunity for me to continuously expand my knowledge and deepen my understanding of what I had already learned.

What did a typical apprenticeship day look like for you?

I wouldn’t say there was such a thing as “a typical day of training.” Of course, I had certain tasks that had to be completed on a regular basis, such as writing and sending letters to clients or handling accounting tasks, which naturally had to be done monthly.

But I was constantly faced with new tasks and challenges that differed from the “day-to-day” activities. So you can never generalize about what needed to be done on a typical workday. I was very happy with this, though, because it meant I never felt bored and my training routine was always varied.

Give us an outlook: What happened after your apprenticeship?

I have to say honestly that I haven’t regretted for a single day that I started my apprenticeship as a tax clerk at Rödl. I’m truly more than satisfied with my department and my coworkers. I’m also very happy that I’ve been given “real” tasks that have allowed me to truly learn something. After completing my apprenticeship, which I started in 2021, I stayed with my team and continue to work there as a tax clerk.
