Exciting insights into the world of finance: the due diligence and financial modelling workshop for students

The Rödl Financial Modelling School normally focuses on training controlling, finance, and the M&A teams from various companies. However, this year we once again opened our doors to students from various universities who specialise in these fields. The focus was on giving participants their first practical experience in financial modelling.

Christoph Hirt and Lukas Schöllhorn, experienced experts from the Transaction & Valuation Services team, acted as coaches and shared the "10 golden rules of financial modelling" with the participants at the start of the workshop, which took place this year at the Rödl & Partner location in Ulm. They also passed on valuable Excel tips and tricks for efficiently converting complex issues into figures.

After this informative introduction, the students were divided into small working groups to tackle the various tasks of financial modelling as part of a case study using the example of fully integrated and driver-based corporate planning. The workshop was not only instructive, but also interactive and practice orientated.

In addition to the tried and tested Financial Modelling Workshop, there was a special addition this year: the Financial Due Diligence School took place for the first time this year in Munich, Cologne, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart. This offered students from various universities the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the world of financial due diligence. As part of a realistic case study, the participants learnt more about the structure and function of financial due diligence and gained valuable insights into Rödl & Partner's work as a transaction advisor for SMEs.

The accompanying coaches Christoph Lebschi (Nuremberg), Sabrina Trümbach (Munich), Patrick Ulrich (Cologne) and Lucas Würth (Stuttgart) were on hand during the workshops to answer the students' questions and deepen their understanding of the world of finance.

To round off a successful day, all participants enjoyed a relaxed get-together with pizza, finger food and drinks after the workshops. Here they had the opportunity to chat informally with other Rödl & Partner colleagues and finalise the day.

The student workshops once again proved that they offer not only professionals but also aspiring talents an insight into the fascinating world of finance. We look forward to continuing to offer such practical workshops in the future and to further deepening students' understanding of financial topics.
