Aktion Tagwerk at Rödl & Partner

The non-profit Tagwerk Foundation grew out of the Aktion Tagwerk association founded in 2002 and organises an annual nationwide school campaign. The campaign is aimed at pupils of all ages and all types of schools throughout Germany. The focus is on the social commitment of children and teenagers for their peers in other regions of the world. For example, the pupils go to work for a day and donate the money they earn.

‘Your commitment makes an impact’ – under this motto, several million schoolchildren have already shown social commitment as part of a day of action since 2002. This year, BPO International in Nuremberg hosted one such ‘day worker’, eleven-year-old Jasmin. She tells us here how she experienced the day:

‘My name is Jasmin and I’m eleven years old. I recently had the great opportunity to spend a day working in the same office as my mum as part of the Aktion Tagwerk campaign. I was quite nervous that morning because I’d never been to the office to work in the past. I’d been there before, but it felt different that day. When I arrived upstairs, I was greeted warmly and was allowed to start my first task straight away, so I didn’t have much time to be nervous.

Working in the office is much more fun than going to school and I would work at Rödl & Partner again at any time.

My tasks were very varied. I was allowed to print, copy and scan documents, prepare a workstation and help with mail dispatch. I learnt a lot and had a lot of fun. It was great to see how everything works in the office and how important even a small task is.

But the special thing about this day was that the money I get for my work is donated to charity. I hope that the children and families who are helped with the money will be happy. The fact that I didn’t have to go to school that day was also a bonus for me. If you have enough to do, working in the office is much more fun than going to school and I would work at Rödl & Partner again at any time.

Maybe I can come back next year, if not, then I’ll work in a kindergarten next – but I’ll definitely take part in the Aktion Tagwerk campaign again!’

Thank you very much for your commitment, Jasmin!
