Examination support at RÖDL: How to become a tax consultant?

How did your professional career start and how did you get to where you are now?

I began my career in the field of taxation through the “traditional” route by completing a degree in Business Administration in Hamburg. After internships in tax advisory services and further experience at the Big 4 in International Tax Law, I commenced my career entry in transfer pricing at Rödl in Munich in 2019, following my master’s degree with a focus on taxation.

My motivation for entering tax consulting, particularly focusing on advising medium-sized businesses at Rödl, stemmed from the desire to take on responsibility quickly. Another driving factor was the prospect of engaging with clients as soon as possible and thus establishing a direct interface in consulting. The decision to enter this field was also influenced by the opportunity to work in small teams, enabling me to make direct and effective contributions to consulting.

How did Rödl support you during your preparation for the tax consultant exam?

Preparing for the tax consultant exam was challenging and time-consuming. However, I received valuable support from Rödl through targeted training and further education. The possibility to extend the exemption time according to my own preferences, completely stepping away from daily work routines, proved to be a significant support. Additionally, regular meetings with colleagues from Rödl helped maintain my motivation and fostered helpful exchanges for optimal preparation.

What is your most important advice for future tax advisors?

I would advise anyone who wants to pursue a career in tax consultancy to focus not only on technical expertise, but also on sharpening their interpersonal skills, as these are an essential part of everyday working life. Networking, continuous learning, willingness to take on challenges, and enjoyment of interpersonal interactions are key components in the field of tax consulting, making the profession so diverse and engaging.
