How did you find your way to Rödl & Partner back then?

I first became aware of Rödl & Partner abroad. During my legal traineeship, I spent several months at a larger international law firm in Singapore. Rödl & Partner was one of the few German law firms there. From that time on, I was always familiar with Rödl & Partner. As a result of all this, I applied for a vacant position at Rödl & Partner in Cologne as a lawyer.

In which position did you start your job?

I started at the Cologne office as a lawyer in the areas of corporate law and civil law.

How has your area of practice developed and what are your current responsibilities?

Basically, my area of practice has not changed significantly. Together with my colleagues from the team “Mittelstand” here at the Cologne office, we advise our clients on all questions of corporate law, whereby my personal focus is on advising German and foreign internationally active companies, there in particular on the topics of transaction advice and restructuring.

However, my “view of the big picture” has certainly developed over time. With increasing professional experience, you sense more quickly what is important to your clients. In the best case, this leads to the fact that you can provide precisely the right support.

What was the best event during your time at Rödl & Partner?

From a professional point of view, the answer to the question of what was the best event during my time at Rödl & Partner is not quite so easy, as there were many great moments. Apart from many successfully completed complex projects that remain in the memory, perhaps the international lawyers’ meeting in Riga or the PMC Future Academies, in particular the events in Berlin or in the former plenary hall of the German Bundestag in Bonn, should be highlighted.

From a personal point of view, the best event is yet to come, as my wife and I are expecting our first child shortly.

What do you particularly appreciate about Rödl & Partner?

What I particularly appreciate about Rödl & Partner is the corporate culture. It is particularly noticeable in that I go to work with a good feeling and also with pleasure, yes, you can say from the first day of work until today.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to spend my free time with my family, my golden retriever Bruno, friends and sports. I have been playing basketball passionately as an active club player for more than 25 years. Furthermore, you can often find me on the tennis court or on my bike (then often on the way to the tennis court;-)).

What do you wish for the future?

Because of the current situation, a little more normality for everyone and, above all, good health.

What else would you like to tell us?

I would like to say thank you: First of all, to all my colleagues with whom I had the pleasure of working in the past.

But I would also like to thank my supervisor and colleague Dr. Dirk Halm, whom I hold in very high esteem. I would like to thank him in particular for always having an open ear for me in all situations in the past years and for allowing me to “learn” a lot from him in the course of our daily cooperation.
